Biography
I grew up in South Bend, Indiana, and graduated from
Purdue University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Mathematics. I moved to Oregon in 1971, attracted by the kinship I felt
with the Oregon "can-do" "rugged individualist" attitude, and its
residents’ integrity, mutual respect, and love for nature
exemplified by Governor Tom McCall and Senator Wayne Morse.
I spent my first 11 years here as a professional musician, as a member
of a popular Northwest band. On the side, I had a small electronic
design and evaluation consulting service, working with several
Northwest musical equipment manufacturers to improve their products. In
1982, I used my electronics background to begin a career in
engineering, first at Sunn Music, then at Mentor Graphics and National
Semiconductor, while taking some graduate level classes in electrical
engineering at Oregon State University.
For the past 20+ years, I have worked at Intel Corporation, including
17 years as an engineering manager at various levels in the
corporation. I am particularly effective at identifying emerging
problems, articulating a clear vision of what must be done, and
energizing others to tackle the problems with me.
I have always been politically active, supporting many political
candidates and causes financially, through petitions and letters to the
editor. With my family (two boys and a girl) now grown, I have decided
to enter this race to directly address the monumental challenges we
face.
I look forward to the opportunity to serve Oregon in the U.S. House of
Representatives.
